ECID or Exclusive Chip ID is a unique serial number for every iPhone or iPad. Apple uses ECID for checking the signature of a firmware file, thus not allowing devices to downgrade to old firmware. Apple iPad sports a new firmware, iPhone OS 3.2. In order to let developers keep their iPhone apps compliant to iPad, Apple has released the iPhone SDK 3.2. As with the other iPhone SDKs, this one also includes the Xcode IDE, an iPhone simulator, and other additional tools.
