How To Unlock iPhone 3G/3GS Firmware 3.1.2 Using blacksn0w?

An unlock is available for iPhone 3G/3GS phones running on firmware 3.1.2. Called blacksn0w, this unlock software has been given by iPhone hacker geohot. Blacksn0w can be used in conjunction with blackra1n RC3 which is used to jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 on baseband 05.11.07.

blackra1n lets you enable native Internet tethering, hacktivation support, a speed improvement of 15 seconds and also support for OS X Tiger and PowerPC Macs.

Note:
1. In case you have not already jailbroken your iPhone 3.1.2 follow our step by step guide on how to Jailbreak iPhone Or iPod Touch Firmware 3.1.2 Using blackra1n RC3.

2. In case you have already installed blackra1n RC1 or RC2, upgrade the app to RC3 and follow method 1.
Here are the steps to unlock jailbroken iPhone 3G/3GS 3.1.2 by using blacksn0w:

Method 1

(For those users who already have blackra1n installed on your iPhone, probably as part of the jailbreaking process):

1. Run the blackra1n app. A list of packages is displayed.

2. Select ‘sn0w’ (blacksn0w) option. This will download and install blacksn0w on your iPhone.

3. That’s it. You have successfully unlocked your iPhone 3G/3GS running on firmware 3.1.2 baseband 05.11.07!

3. A Post Install log for sn0w is presented. There is no need to reboot your device at this point. Simply press the ‘Close’ button to continue. In case your carrier does not support 3G disable it.

Method 2

(For those users who have used the PwnageTool to jailbreak your iPhone to 3.1.2, here are the steps to download and install blacksn0w from Cydia)

1. Go to Cydia –> Manage (at the bottom of the screen) –> Sources –> Edit  (top right)–> Add (top left).

2. Now add the repository URL for blackra1n. Enter ‘http://blackra1n.com’ for Cydia /APT URL and tap ‘Add Source’.

3. After Cydia completes adding the source, press ‘Return to Cydia’ and then ‘Done’.

4. Now you should be able to see ‘blackra1n.com’ in the list of sources in Cydia. Selecting this will display blacksn0w as the only item in the packages list.

5. Install blacksn0w by pressing ‘Install’ at top right of screen.

6. Restart your iPhone after the installation is complete.

After completing either method 1 or method 2 you should be able to use any carrier on your unlocked iPhone.
