How To Jailbreak iOS 4 iPhone 3G Using Redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta

The iPhone Dev Team have updated redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta to support the final release of iOS 4. Apart from home screen wallpaper and multitasking, you can also enable battery percentage in iOS 4 using redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta. Here are the steps to jailbreak iPhone 3G using redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta:

1. Download iOS 4 and update your device firmware via iTunes 9.2.

2. Download redsn0w 0.9.5 Beta 5 for Windows, Mac OSX. Launch it and select the iPhone firmware IPSW file by clicking the Browse button.

3. After redsn0w prepares the jailbreak data, you will be shown the screen with several options including Install Cydia, Verbose boot, Enable multitasking, Enable homescreen wallpaper, and Enable battery percentage.

4. After selecting the desired options, click Next.

5. Make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN before you click Next in this step.

5. At this stage, you will have to put your iPhone into DFU mode(first hold down the POWER and HOME buttons for a few seconds; later release the POWER button, still holding the HOME button till the installation begins) to finish the installation.

That’s it. Reboot your device and you will have a completely jailbroken iPhone 3G. A known issue that still exists with redsn0w 0.9.5 is the Cydia blank icon problem that you encounter on your jailbroken iPhone. To solve this, simply add http://apt.saurik.com/cydia-3.7 repo as a source in Cydia and restart  your iPhone.
