How To Find & Copy iPhone/iPad ECID Using USBView
ECID or Exclusive Chip ID is a unique serial number for every iPhone or iPad. Apple uses ECID for checking the signature of a firmware file, thus not allowing devices to downgrade to old firmware. The signature checked section of a firmware file is sent to Apple’s servers where it is re-signed to get a valid SHSH.
This is why you need to backup SHSH Blobs (ECID SHSH) of your iPhone or iPad firmware, before you jailbreak the device. This way you can go back to the older version, should there be any accidental upgrade.
In case you want to know the ECID of your iPhone or iPad, here are the steps using USBView, a free application:
1. Download and run USBView (link at bottom).
2. Put your device in recovery mode (Turn off your device and While holding down Home button, connect to a Computer. Keep holding Home button, until you see ‘Connect to iTunes’ screen ).
3. In USBView, select ‘Config Descriptors’ from the Options menu. Then click File –> Refresh or press F5.

4. In the left hand pane, select ‘Apple Recovery (iBoot)’ from the USB device tree.
5. Under ‘Device Descriptor’ in the right hand side pane, you will find the ECID in the Descriptor field on the right. Use Ctrl + C to copy this field and paste it into a note pad.
Works with Windows 7/Vista/XP
