Free iPhone GPS App From MapQuest Gives Turn By Turn Voice Directions

iPhone users have been missing out on one thing badly, that other mobile phone users such as Android have been availing since long, a free GPS app. Well, MapQuest, the company that have always been drawing maps, have now brought their free iPhone app out in the App Store.

Called MapQuest 4 Mobile, this app gives you pretty much everything that is needed in a GPS app. You get turn by turn voice directions, or a sound prompt if you don’t like to hear voices. There are a lot of features, including the off-route assistance helping you to get back on track whenever you take that wrong turn, a much needed battery saving mode that allows you to set the power consumption level (low/medium/high), saving of maps and routes online for later retrieval, easy search for places, and so on.

However the app has some drawbacks, such as costing you money for data access each time you ask for directions. It downloads the maps as you need them, unlike other GPS navigation systems which store maps offline. Also it does not support rotation of maps, street views, real time traffic info, or even search by voice.
