How to Jailbreak iPhone 3GS with Firmware 3.0/3.0.1 using redsn0w 0.8?

If you are new to Jailbreak, lets first explain about the term. Jailbreaking is a process that allows users to run unofficial code or programs on their iPhone and iPod Touch devices. The trick bypasses Apple’s official distribution center called App Store. After the device gets jailbroken, the users will be able to download many applications. These useful applications are not available through the App Store via unofficial installers such as Cydia, Rock App, Icy, and Installer.

How to Jailbreak iPhone 3GS with Firmware 3.0/3.0.1?

In this tutorial redsn0w 0.8 is used  to jailbreak 3GS with firmware 3.0 or 3.0.1. Follow the steps below:

1. Download redsn0w 0.8

Windows Users

Mac Users

Linux Users

2. Download iPhone 3GS 3.0 Firmware file. (around 300MB)

3. Double click on the downloaded redsn0w.exe (Windows version) file to run the application.

4. Now browse and select the downloaded iPhone 3G 3.0 firmware, which is an IPSW file (iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw). Double click on the selected file.

5. You should now see a message “IPSW successfully identified“.

6. Press Next after seeing the above message .

7. Now select Install Cydia (Install Cydia and Install Icy are the two options displayed). Some users have problems with Icy, so Cydia is a better choice. Any time later you can install Icy once Cydia is installed.

8. Press Next.

9. Follow the instructions on the next screen which ask you to follow the below steps one after the other.

10. Disconnect your device, turn it off and wait for 5 seconds after the device is fully powered down.

11. While holding down the HOME button, plug the USB cable into the device. DON’T leave the HOME button immediately.

12. KEEP holding down HOME until the ‘Connect to iTunes’ image appears (and the Apple logo disappears)

13. You will see that redsn0w will now download the jailbreak onto your iPhone.
It displays message “Downloading Jailbreak Data…” on your iPhone.

14. Next the redsn0w application running on your PC will show Done.

15. On your iPhone you will see these one after the other:

Flashing NOR.
Installing Bundles.

16. Wait till everything is finished and your iPhone restarts.

17. After the restart, you should be able to see Cydia in your iPhone Apps.

After the above jailbreaking process on your iPhone 3GS 3.0 Firmware, you can install WinterBoard and other programs that is normally not possible.
