Wikitude 2.0 Adds Bookmarks, History, And Cross-World Search
Wikitude is an augmented reality app, that came to the iPhone after becoming quite popular on the Android devices. Fans of Wikipedia, you will certainly love this free app, which overlays Wikipedia POI (Points of Interest) over your iPhone’s Camera.
Augmented Reality has now become common, with iPhone apps and games such as REALSKI, Pandemica becoming quite popular with users. AR is a new way to explore the world around you, by viewing information in layers.
When it comes to knowledge and information, nothing can match Wikipedia, the biggest online library. Wikitude is the first application that uses Augmented Reality to display Wikipedia information on interesting locations. Say you are on a vacation to London. Just turn on your iPhone camera and Wikitude will show you all the points of interest overlayed on the images in the camera. Features include filtering content using categories, a distance slider for filtering POIs, freeze feature to pause the stream of information, searching for content, radar-overlay, and so on.
Wikitude 2.0, the latest version brings a new overview screen, a bubble pop-up windows giving more readable contents, improved GUI and search, bookmarks and history. English and German are the currently supported languages for the displayed Wikipedia content. Since this app uses your iPhone’s GPS, compass, and the Camera, only 3G phones are supported.
