The next time you go skiing in the mountains, you can use your iPhone to get augmented reality of the surroundings. For the unaware, augmented reality is a new technology which overlays information on top of your iPhone camera screen, so you get to know around the place better.

REALSKI is the first augmented reality trail map app on iPhone that uses iPhone 3GS capabilities such as compass, camera, and GPS to overlay key locations of the ski route for many popular ski resorts across North America. Just point your device towards a place, and you will be able to see the chairlift names, runs, facilities such as lodges, restrooms, restaurants, and activities such as terrain parks and special areas available in that location.

You can see the compass giving you a sense of where you are standing, the GPS satellite position, and the current weather of your location on your iPhone camera screen. REALSKI comes pre-loaded with maps for Copper Mountain, Deer Valley, Killington, Northstar-at-Tahoe, and Stevens Pass. Extra maps need to be purchased, which can be done from the application’s interface.

The latest version 1.1 adds the map purchasing feature, lets you get directions to your favorite resort, and initializes faster than the previous version when you arrive outside the boundaries of an installed map.
